Adjusting your FixSeat
For best results, we recommend getting help from an instructor specialized in riding position who can help you measure your pelvic bones and identify your issue. Feel free to seek further assistance when testing different pad combinations during riding.
You can also try adjusting yourself if you have sufficient knowledge.
What you want to measure and find out includes:
– Whether your pelvic bone is straight or more tilted
– The distance between your sitting bones
– The distance from the sitting bones to the pubic bone
– The width of your pubic bone
The angles of your hips also matter.
We assume your saddle fits your horse and is balanced.
– If you have a broad horse needing a wide saddle but you yourself have a narrow pelvis or experience hip pain – try inserting pads both front and back so that your entire seat is “lifted” slightly and the angle becomes gentler
– If you have a wide distance between your sitting bones but use a saddle with a narrow seat, it can often feel hard – try placing a pad at the back to support your sitting bones where the saddle does not provide support
– If you have a tilted pelvic bone and perhaps a saddle with a straight seat – try padding both front and back to frame and stabilize your pelvic bone
– If you have a saddle with a deep seat but a straighter pelvic bone, you may feel that you hit the front and experience pain or chafing – then try inserting pads both front and back
– If you have a wider pubic bone and a saddle with a narrow pommel, you may also experience chafing and lack of support – then try inserting a pad just in the front at first to provide wider support
There are many different variables affecting your seat. Above are some examples of problems and solutions, but dare to experiment. The goal is for your pelvic bone to automatically rest in a neutral position and for you to have a stable seat.
The type of saddle you have obviously also plays a role, and the same saddle can feel different on different horses.
– When you first put on the shorts, it will naturally feel a little strange, but our experience is that after a short while, you don’t notice it anymore
– The front pads can be trimmed or adjusted as needed. They are wide because everyone’s shape is different
– The back pads can also be trimmed or adjusted if necessary. NOTE! Test ride first! Fabrics stretch and change when you put the shorts on
– When you test ride, try riding both without and with the pads – that way you can feel the difference
